Glenbow Hosts Special Opening for Quilt

Esther Bryan

Bagpipes and highland dancers, started off the opening festivities for the dynamic exhibition Belonging, A place for Everyone on the evening of June 29th. This show encompasses the entire main floor of the Glenbow Museum, building on the Quilt of Belonging exhibit with its theme, A PLace for All. The Quilt , beautifully displayed in a soft arc, glows with wonderful lighting. It invites visitors to linger and experience the warm magic of the project. In adjoining rooms other displays include “Celebrating Prairie Cultures”, “A Joyful Harvest” the story of Jewish people in Southern Alberta, “Amantea:Personal and Public Lives” and “ImaginASIAN”. A delightful discovery room welcomes children with all kinds of activities designed to help children learn about different cultures in Canada.

Invited guests were fascinated and reminisced on their own experiences as they viewed the exhibition. The evening included speeches, of course, an artist’s talk by Esther in the Theatre, signing of the Quilt of Belonging Signatory Book and book signings for the Quilt of Belonging book and the catalogue A Joyful Harvest. It was an exciting evening- a promising launch for this well-planned and long-awaited exhibition.
