The Quilt Is Finally Out Of The Closet The 'by-invitation' launch of the National Tour and its companion book was no April Fools' joke. The gala ceremony was a meticulously executed rousing success, just as "Invitation: Quilt of Belonging" itself is. Only a building as impressive as the Canadian Museum of Civilization could be a sufficiently impressive venue to accommodate the hundreds of attendees, the guest speakers and the quilt itself. It seemed that the sweeping lines of the display room had been designed to be its home. It will be on display there until Sunday, April 10th, 2005. However, for now, that is not to be its home. The quilt is a road show. It will be on exhibit at NAVCan, 1950 Montreal Road, Cornwall, from Saturday, April 23rd to Sunday, May 1st, 2005, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition, there will be evening viewing hours Wednesday to Friday, April 27th, 28th and 29th, 2005, until 9 p.m. Esther Bryan will give a special talk, "The Story of the Invitation Project" on Saturday, April 23rd, 2005 at 2 p.m. and Thursday, April 28th, 2005 at 7 p.m.
Thursday, May 19th to Sunday, May 29th, 2005: The World Piece Quilt Festival in Kitchener. Displays at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John's, Newfoundland are a definite, too. Plans are being made for a winter 2005-2006 cross-Canadian Arctic tour. After that? Preliminary discussions for a European tour are in progress.
