We remember Vera Arajs Vera Arajs, a devoted supporter of Quilt of Belonging, a woman who loved life and people, who always saw the possibilities in others, died peacefully at home September 19, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.
The greatest gift Vera gave to us was her constant faith in the project. Always confident that God would see us through the many difficulties and challenges, she faced each day with fresh optimism. Her courage, warmth, humanity and love are a lasting legacy to all of us. We have indeed been privileged to have shared these years with her. Vera encouraged Esther when the Quilt was but an idea. She became the first Board chairperson and was responsible for the incorporation and charitable status of Quilt of Belonging. Her leadership guided and nurtured us from the Quilt’s beginnings in 1998 to its completion and launch at the Canadian Museum of Civilization in 2005.
